Leanhaus 2022 in Review

2022. Wow that went WAAAY too fast.

But it’s been a fantastic year for us at Leanhaus. We’ve matured as a business and, with improved systems and relationships, our home designs have only been getting better. We’re now well settled into our new office in Northbridge, a former workshop lovingly converted by our friends and co-tenants at Whitehaus Architects. With easy parking, park views and a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, it’s a great place to meet, work and create.

With uncertainty in the economy and construction industry we’re keeping our team lean and mean heading into 2023.

Graduate Architect Tuuli has been with us since the final year of her studies and is on a fast track to Architectural Registration. She’s quickly developing into a skilled, intuitive and sustainable designer.

Interior Designer Malin was a new addition to our team this year and has quicky elevated our interiors services and design quality. Superb outcomes in recently completed projects and high client satisfaction is a testament to her skills and vision.

And, last but not least, engineer, Passive House Designer and fellow Passive House owner, Carlos, has also joined us this year. With him he’s brought additional rigour and innovation to our building science research, passive house modelling and performance optimisation.

Having a small team does mean that we have limited capacity to take on new projects, but we find that it allows us to keep a close eye on design and construction quality. We can also be more selective about taking on projects with clients who share our vision for sustainability and performance. For 2023, we currently have the capacity to commence design on just 5 more bespoke projects, but we are developing a model for standardised designs that will allow us to help more clients beyond the metropolitan area.

And, while our preferred certified Passive House Builders were previously completely booked with Leanhaus projects until early 2024, a few stalled projects are now allowing for an additional one or two projects to commence construction in 2023.

As for 2022, thanks again to all our clients and collaborators, you make our work a pleasure every day and we’re unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to work with such genuine, mindful and professional people.

Happy holidays and we’ll see you in 2023!

Ben

OUR 2022 HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Completed in 2021, Claremont Haus, was shortlisted for awards in Houses and AIA Awards, and published in both local and national magazines. We’re incredibly proud of this little house, our first project under the Leanhaus name.

We were also able to hand over 6 completed projects:

  • Gill Street, Mosman Park - a bright and modern Passive House addition to a character cottage, and our first project with Aidan at APL Construction.

  • Wellington Mill - a rural retreat on a budget for a young family and the first Leanhaus Project by Shaun at Saltus Built.

  • Westview Street - a two-storey infill block with a spacious home completed just in time for Christmas by Saltus Built.

  • Alderbury Street - a house for my own family and a joyous opportunity to work with Reece and Blair at Trueline Homes again.

  • Limerick Way, Fremantle - a very affordable home on a small laneway block built to Ecohaus standard by SIDI

  • Gnarabup beach house - a complete interior reconfiguration and design, executed masterfully by our client just in time for the Christmas Holidays.

Projects that commenced construction in 2022:

  • Como Haus (Saltus Built) - our first of many homes with wood fibre cladding and insulation

  • Subiaco Haus (Trueline Homes) - an interior fit out commencing soon.

  • Cottesloe Haus (APL Construction) - on site now with slab pour due before Christmas.

  • Manning Street, Mosman Park (Saltus Built) - Demolition has started with Saltus Built on site early in 2022.

And finally, in very exciting news, 4 new babies have been welcomed by some of our clients this year! Nathan and Stacey grew their family from 3 to 5, with twins to fill out all the bedrooms in their new home. Matt and Sheree in Wellington Mill had their first child shortly before moving into their new home, and our Claremont clients have been able to test the family friendly and flexible layout of their new home with the arrival of a little one earlier this year.

Time to see what 2023 has in store!
